A deadline day signing in April 2002, Wayne Turner drafted Fraser into his squad faced ravaged with injury and inconsistency worries. Fraser took on the left-back role for the remainder of the season, signing from neighbours Luton Town.

Although his temperament is a known downfall, it had curbed visibly during his spell at Broadhall Way, and the Scotsman was rewarded with the captain's armband for the LDV fixture with Luton in the absence of regular captain Jason Goodliffe.

Fraser had been vying for the left-back position, but was able to cover in centre midfield during an injury crisis in that position. He won Under 21 caps for Scotland, and at just 22 had time on his side to become a permanent fixture in the Boro' line-up.

However, Fraser was struggled in the side that crashed to the bottom of the league under Wayne Turner and was soon ousted by Graham Westley's arrivals after the ex-Farnborough Town boss took over.
