Boro' Debut: vs Hereford United (A), 22/02/2003
Much about this young striker goes without saying, but it has to be said regardless. Following in the footsteps of Barry Hayles and Carl Alford, Anthony Elding was the latest striker to take Broadhall Way by storm following his move from Boston United back in 2003. As the 2005/6 season got underway, Eldinio closed in on 100 starts in a Boro' shirt, and went on to complete a half century in terms of goals scored, representing a remarkable strike rate in his time at the club. For the second successive season, the 2004/5 season saw Elding top the Boro' goalscoring charts with over twenty goals during the season.
However, the 2005/6 season was to be defined more by his falling out with Boro' manager Graham Westley rather than his goalscoring exploits. Despite scoring a crucial eight goals, Westley's refusal to release him for an England semi-pro game started a chain of events that was to see Elding's eventual transfer away from Broadhall Way, opting to join Kettering Town of the Conference North, who were prepared to stump up £40,000 for his services. A sadly inevitable departure, Elding has since gone on to prove himself in the Football League, first at Stockport, then with Leeds United and Crewe Alexandra.
