BORO' CAREER:
|
Debut: vs Forest Green Rovers (A), 29/04/2006
Robert Duffy arrived at Broadhall Way in 2006 to bolster Graham Westley's striking options, but soon found himself unable to break into the first team. A handful of games were spent sat on the bench in the vain hope of seeing some action. He finally made his debut in the last game of the 2005/6 season.
Duffy arrived at the club having played a few times at both Gainsborough Trinity and Kettering Town. A spell at Cambridge United followed a loan stint with Stamford, where he scored twice in two games. But Duffy found himself unable to replicate his goalscoring form, scoring just once with the four clubs after.
Given his failure to appear at a time when Boro' needed goals to try and force entry into the playoff berth - and because Jefferson Louis was preferred at the time - it seemed inevitable he would move on. That he did, to Oxford United, where his fortune took a turn for the better.
After a decent couple of years at the Kassam Stadium, the Swansea-born striker fell out of favour and moved to Wrexham on loan. Newport County in his native Wales was the next port of call, before a couple of years at Mansfield Town restored his goalscoring prowess. Duffy moved to Grimsby Town in 2011.
