Having left former club Millwall, Chris Day turned up at Broadhall Way shortly after the start of the 2008/9 season tasked with removing new arrival Ashley Bayes from the Number One spot after just a handful of games into the campaign.

A performance against Crawley Town that oozed confidence and security convinced manager Graham Westley that he was the main man to occupy the space between the sticks for the rest of the season. And there he stayed.

With plenty of experience behind him, Day was a key part of the team that experienced an extraordinary run of form to reach the playoffs in 2009 and the title in 2010, making some crucial - if not outstanding - saves along the way.

His command of the area and presence in a crowded penalty box made him one of the premier stoppers in the Blue Square Premier and a vital asset to the Boro' cause. The good form continued into the Football League as part of League Two's meanest defence in 2010/1.

Meanwhile, off the pitch, Day ran the Crooked Billet pub in Symonds Green and kept him busy while not answering to his duties as a goalkeeper - usually preparing props for the renowned Monday Night Quiz.

Stats do not include expunged Chester City fixtures in 2009/10.
