Peter Costello made the switch from Boston United following the 2002/3 season, and made the switch with fellow Pilgrim. The experienced midfielder was part of the Pilgrims' Championship winning season, and he was also given a taste of Football League action as the club overcame a points deduction to remain in the Nationwide Division Three.

The injury sustained by Sam McMahon at the tail end of the 2002/3 season made it easier for Costello to force his way into the Boro' starting eleven, and on occasion the veteran midfielder was preferred to younger startees - Danny Carroll and Steve Watson - as his experience shone through.

However, his 2003/4 campaign was curtailed by injury after Lee Trundle committed several transgressions on his way to netting a second goal against Boro' for Swansea.
