A hugely popular player with the Stevenage Borough supporters during his time with the club, Brough brought a wealth of tenacity and vigour into the midfield and liked to make his mark on the game. Never afraid to chip in with some important goals, Brough was at the heart of the team that progressed to the playoff final in 2005. However, not all club careers can stretch over a vast amount of time, and the midfielder moved onto pastures new in 2006.
After a spell with Forest Green, Brough moved to Torquay United but was unable to curry much favour. A loan spell at Salisbury City meant that he missed Torquay's run-in towards eventual promotion to the Football League through the playoffs. With not much opportunity to get Football League action, Graham Westley made his move to bring the midfielder back to Boro' for a one-month loan stint - one of only two to join the ranks during Boro's title-winning campaign.
After leaving Boro' for the second time, Brough moved to Mansfield - first on loan, then securing a permanent switch.
