Despite the transfer deadline having passed, Stevenage Borough secured the services of full back Mark Beard due to the fact that the player was unattached at the time. Having featured for Southend United, Sheffield United, and Millwall, the player had been coaching in Spain but was brought to Broadhall Way by Mark Stimson whose experience was invaluable.
Beard racked up nearly half a century of starts whilst at Broadhall Way, becoming a fans' favourite in the process. He left in the summer of 2007 where he became assistant manager at St Albans City. A year later, he moved to Cyprus in a coaching capacity before returning to star in AFC Wimbledon's Blue Square South title-winning bid.
