Boro' Debut: vs Scarborough (A), 22/03/2003

Tony Battersby was brought in towards the end of March 2003 by Graham Westley to compliment his attacking firepower that was already at the manager's disposal. Arriving on a free transfer having been released by Rushden and Diamonds, Battersby was a relatively unknown quantity at Broadhall Way, despite scoring for Lincoln City against Paul Fairclough's side in the 1998/99 FA Cup.

However, as the season concluded, Battersby had shown the Boro' faithful what he was capable of, scoring three goals in just four starts and two substitute appearances. Usually playing second-fiddle to Dino Maamria at Boro', Battersby failed to make the most of the Tunisian's absence at the start of the 2003/4 campaign and was on his way to greener pastures.

However, the striker did leave a legacy at Boro', for it was he that was the reason KC & The Sunshine Band was introduced to the terrace songbook.
