BORO' CAREER:
|
Debut: vs Wrexham (A), 09/08/2008
Experienced central defender Mark Albrighton joined Stevenage Borough in the summer of 2008 from Blue Square Premier rivals Cambridge United. During his stay at the Abbey Stadium, he featured prominently in their push for promotion which ultimately ended in defeat to Exeter City in the playoff final at Wembley. Prior to that, Albrighton had experience of winning the Conference with Doncaster Rovers back in 2003, as well as spells at Boston United and Darlington.
The capture of Albrighton was a surprising one, considering the role he had performed at Cambridge United. But manager Graham Westley turned to his experience in order to bolster Boro's defensive ranks. The pair were familiar with each other from when Albrighton joined Rushden and Diamonds on loan in 2007 while Westley was in charge at Nene Park.
With competition from other defenders at Broadhall Way, Albrighton played a vital role in supporting the perceived first-choice four throughout the 2009/10 title-winning campaign. However, it was to be Albrighton's last season at Boro' - he was released and allowed to find first team football elsewhere.
Stats do not include expunged Chester City fixtures in 2009/10.
