Richard Hill came to Boro' in 1998 and had an immense act to follow, having replaced Paul Fairclough who'd bizarrely been sacked by Victor Green despite being third in the league. In Hill's first season in charge, he could only lead Boro' to an eventual 6th place finish.

However, in the 1999/00 season, his Boro' side made a blistering start to the season with six wins in the first six games. It would have been mightily impressive had Boro' not gone on such a dramatic slide of poor form that ended up costing Hill his job. Hill wasn't helped by early exits in both cup competitions, and he made way mid-season as Victor Green ran out of patience.

A point of trivia: When a Chinese touring side took on QPR in a friendly at the London club's training ground, Hill was found to be one of the primary antagonists in a mass brawl that broke out and subsequently got hit with disciplinary action.
