In their final years at Conference level, Yeovil Town were undoutedbly and consistently one of the top performers. Twice to be found in the top three at the end of the season, the club eventually wrapped up the title and promotion to the Football League in 2003.
However, the first battles between the Glovers and Stevenage Borough had started so differently in 1994/5, when the Somerset club were finding themselves at the wrong end of the table. A 5-0 home win for Boro' during that campaign was one lowlight for Yeovil Town as they crashed to the bottom of the table. On their return in 1997 after a two-year absence, the club immediately set about establishing itself as a dominant force. After gaining promotion in 2003 to the Football League, it took two seasons to secure the League Two title and force their way into League One, where they have consolidated their position. The Somerset club is certainly one to look up to in terms of what they have achieved in recent seasons. Now familiar with rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton Athletic et al, the Glovers perhaps set a benchmark for Boro' to work towards...
