Who
Are... Weymouth FC?
Weymouth made their return to the top tier of non-league football in 2006 for the first
time since 1989 when they finished bottom of the league and went down to the Southern
League. For a spell during the mid-1990s, the Terras even slipped down another tier, but
after fifteen years their Conference South title-winning season has earned them another
shot at the Conference.
The Dorset club come up to the Conference national with a squad full of experience, and on
their day are a tough opponent to beat. Finishing 11th was an admirable achievement
considering a spell of financial difficulty mid-season. The 2007/8 campaign proved to be
even tougher, with relegation only avoided late on in the season after some poor
performances had threatened the Dorset club with a drop into Blue Square South.
Into the 2008/9 campaign and the big test is whether Weymouth can get the men in who can
steer the club away from what could be a likely relegation dogfight. Odds on a title win
range between 40 and 66/1, which ranks them as the fourth least favourite to strike it
lucky. It is most probably the case that Weymouth will be under sustained threat of losing
their Blue Square Premier status heading into 2009, and the challenge for them is not to
succumb to that threat.
