Walthamstow Avenue is one of a number of East London clubs who were responsible for laying the foundations for the eventual formation of Dagenham and Redbridge in the early 1990s.

However, for Walthamstow Avenue - or The A's - life as a football club was to come to an end in 1988 when it was absorbed into Leytonstone Ilford and ceased to exist any longer.

The move brought to an end an 88-year lifespan, having initially formed in 1900 and enjoyed Athenian League success throughout the 1930s and beyond the Second World War in the Isthmian League. During the 1930s, the club won the Athenian League title on five occasions, before winning the first post-war Isthmian League.

Add a couple of FA Amateur Cup successes and an amazing FA Cup exploit in 1952/3, when taking Manchester United to a 4th Round replay, and you have the story of a once-successful non-league outfit.
