Not to be confused with the Luton-based team that Stevenage came up against during Isthmian League days gone by, Vauxhall Motors were founded in 1963 when the car manufacturer (Vauxhall... obviously) opened a new plant at Ellesmere Port.
Initally a member of local leagues, the club soon rose through the ranks of regional competitions and moved to their Rivacre Park ground in the late 1980s. After progressing through the North West Counties League, the club was promoted to Northern Premier League Division One at the turn of the millennium. Within four years, Vauxhall Motors were rewarded with a place in the newly-formed Conference North upon reorganisation. In 2002/3, the club achieved its best FA Cup showing by battling through to Round Two - only to be dumped out by Cheshire neighbours, Macclesfield Town. The club's relegation from the Blue Square North in 2010 was reversed due to the resignation of Farsley Celtic and demotion of Northwich Victoria.
