Who Are... Tamworth FC?
After finishing 17th in 2003/4 season, and 15th in 2004/5, Tamworth would have hoped to have continued the improvement up the league table during the 2005/6 season but it wasn't to be. Finishing the season technically as the second worst side in the league, Tamworth's survival in the Conference was purely down to technicalities that penalised clubs around them in the table and thus saved their own bacon.
It was Tamworth who helped Boro' into the playoffs right at the end of the 2004/5 season, by defending an onslaught from Morecambe and gaining a goalless draw. History could have repeated itself in 2006 season albeit not on the last day, but failed to materialise as Morecambe won 3-0 at the Lamb Ground. Tamworth simply lacked the quality in the 2005/6 season, and relegation simply confounded that inability to compete at non-league's top table.
However, time to regroup in the Blue Square North reacquainted the Lambs with the aptitude needed to survive at the highest level of non-league football. The Blue Square Premier has moved on leaps and bounds since Tamworth last knocked about, so the stakes are even higher than ever before. The quality at the top end of the league has the merciless ability to expose the bottom end for what those teams are truly worth, but Tamworth used the opportunity to rain on some teams' parade. Luton, Oxford and Stevenage all found the Lambs tough nuts to crack in 2009/10.
