Swansea City have been forced to suffer the indignity of being the second club in Wales behind Cardiff City in recent years, but the Swans' promotion to the Championship gave the club the chance to steal bragging rights from their Cymraeg neighbours. The switch from the archaic Vetch Field to the plush new Liberty Stadium acted as a catalyst to the resurgence of the Swans, which has only experienced top-flight football for a very limited spell.

Naturally, the club falls into the dubious category of teams that were lucky to see off Stevenage in the FA Cup. Lee Trundle's 'antics' produced a decisive second goal at the Vetch Field in December 2003 that was enough to secure a 2-1 win, despite feigning a foul in the penalty area in the build-up to the goal. Needless to say, however, the club developed from strength to strength to narrowly miss out on the playoffs in 2010.

In 2011, Swansea City got one over on their Welsh neighbours and secured promotion to the Premier League with a playoff final victory versus Reading.
