HISTORY

Stalybridge Celtic have twice come close to promotion but were to be undone in the playoffs in 2007/8, while a sixth-placed finish in 2008/9 left the club agonisingly close to extending the season by at least two more games. However, it wasn't to be and the Badgers lengthened their stay in the Blue Square North to six seasons after joining from the Northern Premier League.

Despite a relatively long non-league legacy, Stalybridge Celtic have previously occupied a spot in the Football League for a couple of seasons before the outbreak of the Second World War. The prospects of rekindling that acquaintance appears a long way off for a team that has struggled to break into the top half of the Conference during previous seasons.
