Who Are... Scarborough FC?
Scarborough FC suffered the unfortunate fate of being liquidated in 2007 after encountering severe financial difficulties in the aftermath of relegation from Conference National to Conference North. The club's McCain Stadium has left vacant ever since as a new club - Scarborough Athletic - was set up in order to restore the name of Scarborough to senior football.
The former incarnation of football in Scarborough had gained promotion to the Football League in 1987 and remained in the bottom division until 1999, when they confirmed their return to non-league football. The Seadogs also earned a famous FA Cup tie at home to Chelsea in the fourth round in 2003/4, and had a credible result as they only went down to the might of Jose Mourinho's men by a single goal.
