HISTORY

One of the oldest senior clubs in Essex, Saffron Walden Town have been around a long time and once rubbed shoulders with the likes of Wanderers in the FA Cup first round during the 1870s. After just over a decade in the Isthmian League between 1984 and 1996, the club left to join the Essex Senior League after their Catons Lane ground failed to meet league requirements.

Further more, the Wardens applied to join the Eastern Counties League (ECL) after resigning from the Essex Senior League in 2003, only to be denied and left without a league to compete in during the 2003/4. However, the club was admitted to the ECL Division One in 2004.
