Who Are... Rushden and Diamonds FC?
It's been a rollercoaster journey for Rushden & Diamonds FC since the merger between Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds in 1992. Within ten years of their existence they found themselves promoted as champions of the then Division Three into Division Two. But from there, the story changed and things took a dramatic slide.

Relegation after just one season in Division Two saw them drop back into the now newly named League Two. Threatening to drop like a stone, the Diamonds survived relegation by just one place in 2004/5 but ended up rooted to the bottom in 2005/6 and returned to the Conference five seasons after winning it. After a mediocre season in the 2006/7 and 2007/8 seasons, the club has spent big to try and make an impression on the promotion push in 2009.

The signatures of Lee Phillips and Daryl Clare were a huge statement of intent for the Northants club, but it never really worked out for the Diamonds as they spent most of the season floundering around in the central regions of the Blue Square Premier table. Always handy on their day, another season of consolidation followed in 2009/10 and brought a playoff attempt with it; Oxford United winning out. Their time may come again soon.
