Pre-dating their United rivals by the best part of a decade, Oxford City were quick out of the blocks when it came to football in the city during the early years of the 20th century. However, the club found itself locked into the Isthmian League for season after season between 1907 and 1973, at which point they slipped into the first division.
Since the 1973/4 season, City has struggled for any real consistency and were even forced to take a year out in 1988 after being evicted from their then ground. Now edging their way up the Southern League pyramid, the club still has a history worth reflecting upon; Bobby Moore once managed the club, and the FA Amateur Cup success in 1906 stands out as City's major honour. However, considering the fortunes of their rivals from across the city, perhaps the club may feel that they missed a trick at some point along the line as the disparity between City and United is distinctly larger than the current two-league margin suggests.
