Leyton Orient are not uncommon in that the East London club has its roots based in a cricket club looking for something to occupy the players during the winter months. Several name changes were involved in the club's infancy, before Clapton Orient was adopted to represent the club's locality - indeed it wasn't until after the Second World War that the move to Leyton prompted the change to what we now come to call the club.

However, there was a spell between the mid-60s and mid-80s in which the Leyton moniker was dropped altogether and the club was to be known as Orient FC (for the second time in their history). That proved unpopular with fans loyal to the locality and normal service was resumed - an arrangement that has carried through to the current day.

After securing promotion to League One in 2009, the club consolidated and narrowly missed out on the playoffs in 2010/1. The proposed move of West Ham United to the Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Games, however, has proved to be a thorn in the club's side. Indeed, it is a relocation that Leyton Orient had gone to court to try and prevent from occurring due to the impact it might have on the club.
