Nuneaton Borough AFC came into being in 1992 as the new name of Nuneaton Borough FC, having to rise up from the Southern League Midlands Division on their passage through to the Nationwide Conference in the late 1990s. But the club lost its battle for survival in 2003 and joined the Southern League.
The Southern League Premier Division was incorporated into the Conference South and had it not been for Altrincham, Boro' could have returned to Conference National level through the playoffs. The bid, however, was thwarted. After relocating from its former Manor Park home in 2007, problems with finances started to arise. Indeed it came to pass that Nuneaton Borough AFC was liquidated in 2008 and was followed by the formation of Nuneaton Town, so named because the FA insisted on a new name away from the Borough suffix. Still known as the Boro', the latest incarnation of the town's footballing representatives are currently seeking to move back up the ladder after reacquainting itself with the Southern League.
