Who Are... Morecambe FC?
It took a few more attempts than Morecambe would have liked, but the club finally secured its long-awaited promotion to the Football League in 2007 through the playoffs. Sammy McIlroy was the man who eventually got them there, having assumed the manager's position from Jim Harvey and since then, the Shrimpers have established themselve in League Two with two successive 11th position finishes. Given the club's strong showing in the Conference, it seemed inevitable that the Football League was a case of sooner rather than later.

With plans in place for a brand new stadium elsewhere in the town, Christie Park will be turned into a supermarket within the next few years and signals the club's ambitions for the future. Heading into 2009/10, it seems likely that the Shrimpers will yet again finish a comfortable mid-table in League Two at the very least, and may now start looking towards the playoffs in a bid to take yet another step up the pyramid to League One.
