Who Are... Morecambe FC?
It took a few more attempts than Morecambe would have liked, but the club finally secured its long-awaited promotion to the Football League in 2007 through the playoffs. Sammy McIlroy was the man who eventually got them there, having assumed the manager's position from Jim Harvey and since then, the Shrimpers have established themselve in League Two with two successive 11th position finishes. Given the club's strong showing in the Conference, it seemed inevitable that the Football League was a case of sooner rather than later.

The 2009/10 campaign brought about playoff heartbreak in the club's bid to push on other level; comprehensively beaten by eventual promotees Dagenham and Redbridge. But the 2010/1 season welcomes a new dawn for Morecambe - the Shrimps have packed up and left Christie Park and for their new stadium, called The Globe Arena. Heading into 2010/1, it seems likely that the Shrimps will set their sights on hitting the promotion trail again, hopefully with more luck than last year!

That said, it will be nice to renew acquaintances with a club where Boro' have enjoyed some memorable battles over the years. Who can forget John Hamsher's penalty? The FA Trophy fixture played in the fog? Steve Morison's hattrick in a 3-3 draw under Mark Stimson? Much can be said for trips to Morecambe - hopefully the Football League will reprise those moments once again.
