The existence of MK Dons is a hotly debated one that poses the risk of opening a can of worms. Formerly known as Wimbledon FC, the rebranding and relaunch of the club in a Milton Keynes setting has seen the club consolidate after its relegation from the Premier League and establish itself as a cornerstone of the Football League.
There was a time when the Dons were a lowly non-league outfit taking on the likes of Stevenage Athletic. The rise that the club experienced throughout the late 20th century was an astonishing one, which culminated in a shock FA Cup Final victory against Liverpool in 1988. And after that, the club was a fairly stiff opponent in the top flight. Despite being a continuation of the Wimbledon FC club, however, MK Dons relinquished posession of Wimbledon's trophies and legacies in 2007. The first competitive meeting of Boro' and MK Dons took place in 2010, when the FA Cup saw the sides paired together in the first round. It was a meeting that Boro' eventually triumped in on penalties. Select an option from the left for more information about this club |
