Who Are... Margate FC?
After three seasons in the Nationwide Conference, Margate accepted voluntary demotion in 2004 after encountering difficulties that persist to the current day. Problems with the redevelopment of Hartsdown Park forced the club to share with Kent neighbours Dover Athletic for two seasons and led to the demotion of the club despite a 16th finish. In 2004/5, the club was again relegated, this time into Ryman League Premier Division amid continuing fears over the club's future.

Yet, the issues fail to go away despite finally moving back to Hartsdown Park. A winding up order was served against the club in 2009 by the Inland Revenue, but the petition was deferred to allow time for the club to pay back its debts as it prepared for another campaign in the Ryman Premier having been reprieved by the demise of other clubs preventing further relegation.
