After three seasons in the Nationwide Conference, Margate accepted voluntary relegation in 2004 after difficulties that persisted for a long time. Problems with the redevelopment of Hartsdown Park forced the club to share with Kent neighbours Dover Athletic for two seasons and led to the demotion of the club despite a 16th finish.
In 2004/5, the club was again relegated, this time into Ryman League Premier Division amid continuing fears over the club's future. Yet, the issues failed to go away despite finally moving back to Hartsdown Park. A winding up order served against the club in 2005 by the Inland Revenue over an unpaid tax bill was only cleared in 2010. Select an option from the left for more information about this club |
