Leyton Wingate was the result of a merger between Leyton FC and Wingate FC in 1975 and continued until 1992. It was during this spell that Stevenage Borough encountered the side before they reverted back to Leyton FC in 1992. Another merger was to follow in 1995, however, but this time with Walthamstow Pennant to form Leyton Pennant. Again, this didn't show any signs of longevity and led to the reformation of Leyton FC in 1997.
A successful court order issued in 2002 meant that the five-year old Leyton FC had the right to lay claim to the decades of history that preceded even the merger of Leyton and Wingate, with a vast history of non-league football stretching back to the late 19th century.
