Latterly known as Leigh Genesis in the years after dropping out of the Nationwide Conference, Leigh RMI are sadly no more. The club raised a few eyebrows in their first season in the Nationwide Conference with a top five finish despite a couple of convincing wins for Stevenage. However, that was as good as it was going to be for the Lancashire club as they slid down the table season-on-season.
Despite finishing comfortably inside the drop-zone in the 2003/4 season, the club was reprieved by Margate, who was demoted on ground issues to Conference South. It wasn't long before the club did slide into Conference North, relegated the following season. And it didn't get any easier, in the three seasons they spent in Conference North, they recorded finishes of 21st, 17th and 22nd respectively. Leigh moved to the new Leigh Sports Village but found the financial outlay too much of a pressure. It entered into a groundshare agreement with Atherstone Laburnum Rovers but fortunes failed to pick up. After relegation from Northern Premier League Division One North in 2011, the club decided against applying for a place in the North West Counties Football League.
