In 2009, the High Court decided to see fit that King's Lynn FC would be wound up after HM Revenue and Customs came chasing the club over unpaid tax debts. Certainly not the first club in current times to face such an order, efforts to save the Norfolk club proved unsuccessful and the Linnets exited the Northern Premier League.

It brought the curtain down on a long proud history, which had seen the club achieve Conference North status in 2008 after winning the Southern League. Ground problems, however, forced their demotion the following season.
