HISTORY

If Irthlingborough Diamond's unusual suffix doesn't give you an indication of what became of this former club, then you haven't been concerning yourself with the Conference (and Football League) in recent years. In 1992, the club merged with Rushden Town to form the Rushden and Diamonds we have all come to love.

The new club remained at the Diamonds' Nene Park stadium and immediately embarked on a meteoric rise through the non-league pyramid into the Football League bankrolled by Dr Martens mogul Max Griggs. The Football League adventure didn't last, and Rushden and Diamonds subsequently returned to the Conference.
