Formed in 1879, Hoddesdon Town have spent almost their entire lifespan in the lower reaches of the non-league pyramid. During the 1920s, they can be traced to the Herts County League before opting to join the Spartan League in 1924; a competition the Lilywhites spent a large part of the following decades.
Success in the Spartan League was limited to a second place finish during the early 1970s, but the club guaranteed its place in history after winning the inaugural FA Vase in 1975. In the same year, the club helped found the London Spartan Leagued but moved on to join the Athenian League, which was disbanded during the 1980s.
