Despite the close proximity of the two clubs, Hitchin Town and Stevenage have not had the opportunity to renew old rivalries since 1994, when Boro' took the step up to the GM Vauxhall Conference. A few pre-season friendlies have done nothing to reignite the passions and it's arguably the case that Boro' have moved on.

Hitchin Town was promoted to the Southern League Premier Division in 2010/1, having been relegated after a turbulent 2008/9 campaign. An instant return had already been denied by former Conference outfit Slough Town in the previous playoffs, but revenge was served on Slough in 2011 as part of its successful playoff campaign.
