Who
Are... Histon FC?
From a small village to the north of Cambridge, Histon perhaps rival Forest Green Rovers
for the smallest locale represented in the Blue Square Premier. Their rise through the
ranks has been a fast one, having only played Eastern Counties League football as recent
as 2000. Their ambitions are not limited either, as their demolition of rivals Cambridge
United in the FA Trophy demonstrated a couple of years ago.
The club's performance during the 2007/8 campaign was nothing short of impressive. They
performed the best of the promoted clubs by a long way, threatening to gatecrash the
playoff battle on a number of occasions - a mere nine points by the final day is not to be
sniffed at for a team who had come a long way in such a short space of time.
And so onto the 2008/9 season, where Histon have now laid a benchmark for where they want
to be. A strong managerial team will look to produce more of the same but replicating that
form could prove tough. The league grows ever stronger, and the gap grows between the
haves and have-nots. So for Histon, establishing a solid mid-table base is probably the
height of progress by the end of the 2008/9 run.
