From a small village to the north of Cambridge, Histon perhaps rival Forest Green Rovers for the smallest locale represented in the Blue Square Premier. Their rise through the ranks has been a fast one, having only played Eastern Counties League football as recent as 2000. Their ambitions were not limited either, as their demolition of rivals Cambridge United in the FA Trophy demonstrated a few years ago.

The club's performance during the 2007/8 campaign was nothing short of impressive. They performed the best of the promoted clubs by a long way, threatening to gatecrash the playoff battle - a mere nine points by the final day is not to be sniffed at for a team who had come a long way in such a short space of time. And the 2008/9 season developed further, with Histon astounding many to finish 3rd behind fierce rivals Cambridge United.

After laying that benchmark, the 2009/10 season was much tougher for Histon and it was spent at the wrong end of the table as off-field problems threatened to consume the club. Management came and went as the club struggled to continue competing with their contemporaries. It would appear that the playoff adventure may have taken much more out of Histon than had been anticipated. Relegation beckoned in 2011.
