When Hereford United finished second for the third successive season in the 2005/6 campaign, it was more or less time that the Bulls finally made the step back into the Football League after a stay in the Conference that was arguably longer than the club would have wished. Indeed, Stevenage Borough were one of the clubs to put paid to Hereford's prior promotion battles on the Hertfordshire club's way to the playoff final in 2005.
Now in the Football League, Hereford United secured another promotion to League One but faltered and finished bottom in 2008/9 to find themselves back in League Two. Although the club seems more than adequately equipped to meet the needs of the division. Further more, redevelopment plans to bring one of the stands back into use at Edgar Street demonstrated that the club is seeking to continue its progression in the years ahead. Stevenage ought to have fond memories of Edgar Street, given it was the ground at which Boro' secured their passage through to the 2005 playoff final. While the promotion push did not materialise into anything, Boro' had the chance to renew old acquaintances in 2010/1 and won 4-1 at Edgar Street.
