HISTORY

Formed in 1874, Finchley FC was one of the oldest clubs competing in English football up until the end of the 1990/1 season. Having finished second bottom in Vauxhall Football League Division Two North that season - the Isthmian League if you will - as Stevenage Borough secured the title, Finchley merged with Wingate to establish Wingate and Finchley FC.

The former Finchley FC had started to incur increasing debt, but the merger was able to safeguard the long-term future of senior football in Finchley.
