Forest Green Rovers defied the rather paltry BoroGuide prediction of relegation in 2006/7, with a new ground and a few new players ensuring the 2007/8 season was again another good performance from the Gloucestershire side. Rovers recorded their highest ever league finish, settling in 8th.
A large wedge of their Goals Scored column during the 2007/8 campaign, however, was down to one man. Stuart Fleetwood was the leading goalscorer and went on to secure a big-money move to Charlton Athletic. Finding a man who can replicate that sort of potency is never easy. Never an easy place to visit, few clubs relish the prospect of trying to pick up points at The New Lawn. But the club started to flirt with relegation from the Blue Square Premier and were reprieved in 2009/10 after Salisbury City exited the competition.
