Farsley Celtic enjoyed a rapid rise in fortunes in recent years, with promotion to the Blue Square Premier coming just two seasons after breaking into Blue Square North. Celtic earned their rise into the Conference courtesy of the playoffs, having finished fifth in Conference North in the 2006/7 season.
It was a tough campaign at national level and the tough times continued for the Leeds-based club, as financial difficulties saw the club appear before the High Court to fend off winding up orders brought by HM Revenue and Customs. After entering administration in summer 2009, Conference bosses told the club that they had been expelled from the 2009/10 Blue Square North campaign. However, that decision was reversed in Farsley Celtic's favour - a welcome break in a trying period for the club. That said, problems continued and the club was forced to resign from the competition in early 2010 as uncertainty reigned over the future of Farsley Celtic, which was eventually disbanded. A new club came along - Farsley AFC, starting life in the Koolsport North East Counties Premier Division in 2010. Select an option from the left for more information about this club |
