Who Are... Enfield FC?
It is fair to say that Enfield FC were one of the giants of non-league football for a long time. In the 1980s, the club was confirmed as the best non-league team twice after they won the Alliance Premier League title - 1985/6 was the final season of the election policy, however, and the Football League said no, just as they had done in 1982/3. After sliding into the Diadora League Premier Division at the start of the 1990s, Enfield were certainly the team that gave Stevenage Borough their sternest test on the path to the GM Vauxhall Conference.

In 1995, the club nudged themselves over the line after a series of failed title bids but were unable to join the Conference after the club's finances were deemed to be too precarious. It was this curse that was to prove their undoing come the end of the 1990s. After selling their Southbury Road home without a new home to go to. Alas trouble arose between the club, the chairman and the council and after limping along until the end of 2006/7, when a new club was formed to replace the troubled old one. It was the end of an era.
