The club was formed as Langney in 1964 and spent many years playing in the local and district leagues. In 1983, the club stepped up to the Sussex County League in Division Three, a title which they were to win in 1987. The following year saw the club pick up the Division Two title, and with it promotion to the Sussex County League Division One.

After becoming the Sussex County League champions in 2000, the club moved into the Southern League Eastern Division and a year later changed their name to Eastbourne Borough to allow opponents to become more familiar with where the club were based. Promotion to the Southern League Premier Division followed in 2003, and then the Conference South in 2004. Only Altrincham stood in their way of another successive promotion into the Conference National that year.
