Arguably one of the foremost non-league clubs in terms of history and reputation, Dartford started life in 1888 and were founder members of Southern League Division Two in 1896. The club yo-yoed between the Southern and Kent Leagues towards the end of the 19th century, albeit not due to relegation. But it wasn't until 1926 when the Darts made the Southern League a more permanent home.
In 1981, Dartford were restored to the top of the non-league tree by joining the Alliance Premier League - a competition still in its formative years. It was a one-season stay, but the club returned two years later and doubled the length of their previous stay. To two years. Returning to the Southern League in 1986, the club withdrew four games into the 1992/3 season and went into the Kent League for three seasons. Throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, Dartford groundshared with Erith & Belvedere, Thurrock and Ebbsfleet United before moving to the new Princes Park stadium in 2006. By this point, the Darts had been back in the Southern League but moved across to the Isthmian League and are now looking to move back up the ladder and restore the glory days of the 1980s. Promotion to the Blue Square South in 2010 helps. Select an option from the left for more information about this club |
