After leaving the North West Counties League in 1991, Colwyn Bay established themselves as a continuous force in the Northern Premier League Premier Division for more than 10 years. Unlike Merthyr Tydfil, the Seagulls have been unable to rise through the ranks to represent Wales in the top flight of non-league football but the club remains one of a select few to compete outside the Principality's national league.
The Football Association of Wales had tried to recruit Colwyn Bay into the League of Wales structure through forceful means, but the club eventually won its battle and remained in the English pyramid. Continuing in the Northern Premier League, the club was promoted to the Blue Square North in 2010/1, and will be hoping there is more to follow.
