A smattering of league and cup clashes make up the historic head-to-head record between us and Chalfont St Peter. At first, we were league buds in the 1984-5 Servowarm League Division Two North campaign; Boro’ winning each of our five meetings stretching into the 1985-6 season too. In fact, the first four league encounters were won by us to nil. The fifth meeting – an FA Vase Round Two clash – was a much closer affair; us coming out on top by the odd goal in five.
After we went up to Division One, we ended up coming down in the season they followed us. So, it wasn’t until the 1991-2 Division One campaign that we renewed league rivalries. Again, we went up ahead of them. But the Saints couldn’t get themselves any higher and it’s now quite a while since we last met in a competitive setting.
Chalfont St Peter: The Facts
Mill Meadow
Gravel Hill, Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, SL9 9QX
The Saints (but of course. Ed.) hail from leafy Buckinghamshire, having formed in 1926. At first, they kept busy in local leagues. After the Second World War Two, however, the club went global regional; making their debut in the Great Western Combination in 1948. After 1958, there were spells in the Parthenon League, the London League, the Spartan League and the Athenian League would follow. It’s in 1984 that our interest is piqued; the year Chalfont St Peter joined the Isthmian League – or the Servowarm League as it was known at the time.
Why do we know the Saints?
The happy combination of coincidence and circumstance. That’s what threw us and Chalfont St Peter together ahead of the 1984-5 season. Just like Flackwell Heath and Harefield United, Boro’ and the Saints were fresh to the Isthmian (Servowarm) League. Both placed in Division Two North, the first two meetings were a breeze; us winning away then home without conceding (2-0 and 1-0). The second season was similar; Boro’ running out 3-0 winners in our third encounter and winning the return league fixture to nil too (2-0).

Chalfont St Peter: Result-by-Result (Boro' Scoring First)
How to get to Chalfont St Peter – Travel Information – Distance: 32 miles
By Road
This trip should take no more than an hour. The best way (in our opinion) to do it is to go counter-clockwise on the M25 to Junction 17 (A412). Exit the motorway and take the first exit for the spur to the next roundabout.
The second exit for the A412 Denham Way is the one you need, before taking the third exit at the roundabout after 1.3 miles for Chalfont Lane. As you cross the M25, the road becomes Shire Lane and continue along for about 0.6 miles. There’s another change of name too; this time to West Hyde Lane.
At the end of the road, turn left into Denham Lane and then right after Winkers Farm for Joiners Lane. Go down here for 0.5 miles before taking the third exit at the roundabout onto the A413 Gravel Hill (north). Beware along here; there’s a left hand turn just before CDC Driving Instruction for the club.
The ground isn’t that big. But we think that, given the likely demand, there will be spaces available when you arrive.
By Rail
Station: GERRARDS CROSS
Services to: LONDON MARYLEBONE
The ground is situated nearer to Gerrards Cross than Chalfont and Latimer. But you’re still looking at a walk of more than 35 minutes to cover the distance. From the station, turn left onto the B416 Packhorse Road and continue for the best part of a mile.
Just before you reach the big roundabout for the A413, turn left onto Lower Road and go onto the High Street. This should take you to a roundabout, where you need to take a left turn to go north on Gravel Hill. Like the road directions, there’s a left turn for the ground.
