Who Are... Chester City FC?
The relegation of Chester City from the Football League at the end of the 2008/9 season was both surprising and unsurprising in equal measures. The off-the-field turmoil at boardroom level, which reached its resolution shortly before the 2009 AGM to ensure Chester City could compete in the Blue Square Premier ultimately had an impact on the club's League status. But at the same time, the club dropped out of the Football League in a season when three clubs below them had points deductions forced upon them that had given Chester City ample breathing space at the start of the season.

The last time Chester City dropped out of the League, they surrendered nearly 70 years of League history for a four-year spell in the Conference. It could have been just the three had their playoff attempts against Doncaster Rovers been successful, but that was traded in for the Conference title the following season; a season in which Stevenage Borough were the only team to win at the Deva Stadium. Now, the club find themselves back in the Conference - which has beefed up since they were last about, and making an escape could prove a little more difficult second time around.

Regrouping under new manager Mick Wadsworth and new owners, the club looked to get back on the front foot as quickly as possible. Certainly the need was to draw on their previous experiences at this level in order to battle it out with the top teams in the division. Much was also be made of the players signed in the close season, but ongoing financial difficulties and points deductions culminated in the team's expulsion from the competition in February 2010 and the expunging of records.

In March 2010, the club was wound up by the High Court.
