A stalwart of the Football League, Brentford have plenty of experience when it comes to the competition and played out a solid campaign in 2009/10 to finish in 9th place - no mean feat in such a competitive division. It was their first in League One following their League Two title-winning campaign in 2008/9.

The West London club was formed in 1889 and arguably went through its most successful period in the years preceding the Second World War, featuring in the top flight of English Football. However, that stay was brought to a conclusion with relegation to the second tier upon the resumption of the Football League programme in 1946.

Living in the shadow of Chelsea and Fulham means that Brentford have to go that extra yard to secure bragging rights in West London; particularly with the Bees looking for successive promotions to take them to the Premier League. There have been a few notable cup exploits in recent seasons and two near-misses in the Football League Trophy, but Brentford are probably still aspiring for more.
