Having formed in 1933 following the demise of the town's previous football clubs, Boston United enjoyed a healthy history at non-league level for many years, highlighted by four Northern Premier League titles during the 1970s. A founder member of the Conference in 1979, the club was relegated in 1994 at a time when Stevenage Borough were stepping up and failed to return until 2000.
In a remarkable push, Boston needed just two seasons on their way to the Football League for the first time of their history, but that's when the problems set in. Racked with financial difficulties, the club was deducted 10 points for entering administration in the 2006/7 season and were one of the two relegated sides to enter the Conference. However, Conference bosses were unsatisfied with the club's finances still, and there was barely a pause for breath as the club were fast-tracked through to Conference North. After one season, the club returned to the Northern Premier League despite finishing 10th and a playoff victory secured Blue Square North status for 2010/1.
