Who Are... Bedford Town FC?
Technically a new team formed in 1989/90, the history of Bedford Town stretches back more than a century and has seen the club - at points - scale some heady heights in the old Southern League. In 1958, the club were runners-up for the second time, but on this occasion only on goal average, and Bedford remains one of the largest towns in England not to have hosted a Football League club. In past FA Cup exploits too, the club has held Arsenal and dealt with Newcastle United, but the tale came to an abrupt end in 1982.

However, reformed and back in business for the 1990s, meetings with Stevenage Borough have so far been restricted to the odd pre-season friendly. However, Bedford are intent on regaining lost ground but only retained their Southern League Premier status due to the demise of Nuneaton Borough. Ex-Boro' boys have found their way to the Eyrie too, and it will be interesting to see whether Bedford can indeed get back to the days which took them to the verge of the Football League more than 50 years ago.
