Having entered the public consciousness for their FA Cup exploits rather than their league progress in recent seasons, Basingstoke Town have been a cornerstone of the Conference South since its inception in 2004 and narrowly missed out on the playoffs in the 2004/5 season - finishing just one point below the four spaces that would have given them a shot at promotion.
