For a number of years, Aylesbury United were the superior cousins of Stevenage Borough when it came to league performance. But despite gaining promotion to the Conference from the Southern League in the late 1980s, The Ducks soon returned to the Isthmian League fold and came up against a Boro' side embarking on an upward curve - if you looked at a graph of league positions, that is.
Since the Hertfordshire outfit progressed into the Conference themselves, meetings between the side became very rare - an FA Cup qualifier in the mid 1990s being the first encounter after the balance of power had shifted. And with Boro' moving into the Football League, it has been the opposite state of affairs in Aylesbury United's case - down to the Molten Spartan South Midlands Football League. Off the field, times have been tough on The Ducks too. The club was forced to seek groundshares with neighbouring teams following the departure of a former chairman in 2006. Leighton Town have been one of those to put the Ducks up, although there is a campaign that is seeking to deliver the return of the club to their Buckinghamshire home town.
